Attending the meeting were: Dr. Mehrdad Maz and Dr.
Jason Springer, Denny and Ruth Hale, Stephen Jefvert, Glenn and Arlene Kullman, Jean Bussard, Jerry and Judy Niebaum, Bob and Sharon Schoonover, Jana Seibel, Debbie and Brad
Yates.
Jerry, Judy , Denny and Ruth attended the Philadelphia Symposium;
Jerry talked about the Breakout session for the Chapter Leaders. They seemed to
have the same question: how does one get larger attendance at the Chapter
meetings? It was hoped that since today's meeting was in a more centrally
located facility, there would be more attendees. Denny and Ruth talked about the large number of doctors
who were presenters and how efficiently the schedule was carried
out.
Dr. Maz and Dr. Springer are working to establish a
Vasculitis Clinic at KU Medical Center similar to the Mayo and Cleveland
Clinics. Much of the discussion was about getting patients to
come to the Vasculitis Clinic when it is completed; several of the patients
talked about their experiences at Mayo or the Cleveland Clinics and how they saw
doctors of many disciplines all in one visit. Scheduling is going to be a
project in itself, according to Dr. Springer.
Brad asked about Prednisone and Dr. Maz talked about it
extensively; said never to just discontinue the dosage but to taper it off
gradually. He also talked about Calcium, Imuran, and Rituxan.
Dr. Maz also answered questions about the shingles
vaccine.
Bob Schoonover told us his Wegener's is out-of-remission and he believes it is because of the stress he and Sharon have had this last year. It was difficult for Steven Jeffries to speak; he has
Bechets; he said he met Joyce at their eye doctor's office.
The next national Symposium will be in 2015; dates and
destination to be announced.
