KC VF Meeting Minutes - Oct 17, 2015

The Kansas City Support Group met on Saturday, October 17 in room 125 Best Conference Center, University of Kansas Edwards Campus.  Present were Mary Tanner, Julie Tanner, Linda Gibson, Jim Gibson, Erin Symmonds, Kyrie Mandrion, Jean Bussard, Brad Yates, Debbie Yates, Glenn Kullman, Arlene Kullman, Joyce Kullman, Shannon Morgan, Denny Hale, and Ruth Hale.

Dr. Jason Springer, Director of Vasculitis Clinic, University of Kansas Medical Center, provided an update of the clinic since beginning in July 2013.    Dr. Springer also announced plans for a 2016 Kansas City Regional Vasculitis Symposium at the University of Kansas Edwards Campus for patients/families.  He requested attendees of the meeting to each write down the three most important reasons to attend a vasculitis symposium and three suggestions for the structure for it.  This was followed with discussion of the ideas.  Dr. Springer concluded his presentation with updates on several clinical trials.

Joyce Kullman, Executive Director of the Vasculitis Foundation, announced that the foundation has won a 2015 Philly Award for one of the "Extraordinary Vasculitis Stories" videos produced by Ed Becker.  The competition is sponsored by Nonprofit Connect to honor the best marketing materials produced by nonprofit organizations across the country.  The awards ceremony will be held on November 5th.  Joyce also provided reminders of the upcoming webinar events October 29th Vasculitis, Fertility, and Pregnancy: How to Build a Family Despite Having Vasculitis and November 18th Genetics of Vasculitis and Current Research.

The meeting was concluded by attendees introducing themselves and providing brief updates on their vasculitis status.

The next KC Support Group meeting will be held December 12th at the Best Conference Center.
