December 2009 Meeting Minutes

Attending the December 12, 2009 meeting were: Jerry and Judy Niebaum, Sharon and Bob Schoonover, Glenn and Arlene Kullman and Joyce Kullman. The meeting was held at the Santerra on Shady Lane Clubhouse and was hosted by the Kullmans. They live at Santerra.
Jerry began the meeting with a discussion about why so few people are attending the KC Chapter meetings. Perhaps December is not the best month for a meeting but attendance has been down at the previous meetings also.
Sharon talked about the stroke she had in late summer and praised the people at the theatre where she and Bob were seeing a movie for their quick response and for calling 911 immediately. It is known that the quicker a stroke is treated, the greater the possibility of complete cure. She is back to hiking, bike riding and all the things she enjoys. She and Bob laughed about everything in their house being decorated for Christmas.
Cindy Weaver's documentary MYSTERY DIAGNOSIS, was discussed. Thanks to Cindy and her Doctor, more people have a chance to learn about auto-immune diseases.
Joyce talked about the research being conducted in both the United Kingdom and in Germany. However, some insurance companies are not paying for Rituximab because they believe the drug is experimental.
Joyce will contact Brandi to talk about a walk during Awareness Week April 25 - May 1, 2010; she did a great job last year. Bob and Sharon will look into the possibilities of having one in their area.
Joyce talked about the American Cancer Society's motto "race for the cure" vs the Vasculitis Foundation's motto "Sticking together for a cure". Seems the Cancer Society is unhappy with the VF "s motto.
The next meeting of the KC Chapter will be held at St. Luke's
Hospital Fountain Room (next to cafeteria) on March 13, 2010.
